Summer (full name: Summer Nelson) is one of the main characters in "Adventure Time with Summer and Carla" and a half-human/half-vampire hybrid which is over a thousand years old. She was first introduced in "Foxy Roxy" as a troublesome figure. She is shown to be clever, sarcastic, and hot-headed at times. She is also the leader of "The Fang Gang," a vampire group in the Land of Ooo.

Background[]

Summer is over a thousand years old, as she said in "Foxy Roxy" and "Fierce Heart." In "Princess Christmas," a flashback shows Betty giving Summer a stuffed animal panda, which she would later name "Vivienne", presumably sometime before the Mushroom War. Later in "Deja Vu", when the Fang Gang visit the past, one of the times they visit is during the Mushroom War, where a younger Summer appears to be crying. Later on in "Vampire Time", she confirmed she was one of the survivors of the war.

As a teenager, CeeJay gave her fire powers away to Summer. According to XxSkyCakesXx, CeeJay did so in order for Summer to defend herself. Stated by Maple Panda, Summer was reckless and carefree during her teenage years, and normally used her fire powers to either show off or cause trouble. In "Deja Vu" another time period they visit is one where Summer is a teenager, and she walks up the Vampire King's throne.

In "Foxy Roxy," Summer shows she has the ability to transport herself to other dimensions, and she is able to teleport herself to the "Nightosphere" without going through a portal. Sometime after she was bitten, she presumably met Bell, since they appear to know eachother, and have a somewhat riviraly. It is unknown where her place of residence is, but in the comics she lives in the Fire Kingdom.

Like Marceline, it is unknown exactly when or how Summer became a vampire, although she did not have a bite mark on her neck when she was younger. This is supported as the Farmworld Marceline stated Summer died a long time ago. This reveals Summer never turned into a vampire and remained as a human, eventually dying due to her mortality. As such, all of her current powers (excluding her fire abilities, and her unknown ability to teleport through dimensions) appear to be vampric. According to Maple Panda, she was bitten around the same time as Marceline was.

Personality[]

Summer's personality is introduced to be the typical young adult type.She implies a very laid-back, too-cool, and somewhat sassy-like figure. She has a mischievous personality and is rarely intimidated, and often shows interest in toying around and messing with people's heads. She is very rational and quick-thinking,regardless of its consequences. She merely appears as an annoying, and trouble seeking persona. She loves to "crash parties" and annoying the crap out of people, yet her main targets are Marshall Lee and Carla. She also enjoys to butt into people's personal business, as she appears mildly interested in Marshall Lee and Marceline's relationship. Despite acting like a antagonist, she is actually a main protagonist.

Despite her clever and crafty attitude, she can be generally confused or clueless, as in "Fierce Heart" she doesn't pick up on Penny's sarcasm.Very oddly, she can also be quite the innocent and oblivious type, as she doesn't understand 'anything dirty' as exampled in "Message of a Demons Curse" when Finn stated he thought of Flame Princess as hot, she stated "Well duh. She's like, pure fire, she's technically a flame. If you go near her you'll pretty much burn." Opposed to Marceline, Summer can express her feelings easily. She can also be compassionate and caring at times,although when you tell her to 'stop',she rarely ever listens.

When it comes to anger, Summer has a hard time keeping calm. She'd throw a tantrum,and act vivid and vicious, similar to Flame Princess' anger issues. She normally acts up, and becomes more of a bully instead of a trickster. Her actions may be a result of her fire powers, as whenever she's in a bad mood, she'll throw flames in the nearest area. She can't control her stress, and normally hurts people or says things she never meant to say. She is aware of her issue, as in "Sam and Carlos" she stated she never means to act rude, but she can't control it.

She also appears to be sentimental and emotional,as she's attached to her stuffed animal,"Vivienne," which Betty gave to her when she was younger. When people mention the "Mushroom War",she normally tears up by the name of it. Even if its just mentioned, which is interesting for a fact she never shows any marks of sadness and depression and normally covers it up well.

During the second season, she isn't as snarky as she used to be, but this may be of her lack of appearances.

Appearance[]

Summer has white skin and long dark brown hair in a high ponytail that reaches to her feet. In artwork, she has grey streaks in her hair. She also sports two marks on her neck, which are presumably the marks of the bite that turned her into a vampire. She has human ears, and sharp incisors. Her main outfit features a white and black sleeved blouse. She wears a purple thigh length skirt, long white stockings, and Mary Jane shoes. She also wears a bracelet in addition to her clothes. In some of her concept pitch documents, mainly Nikki's artwork, she is shown to have a nyan cat keychain linked to the left bottom of her shirt. Her appearance and personality is that of a 18 to 20 year old. She is very thin. She is usually floating in the air but when she stands she's Marceline's height. In most of her transformations, she is shown to have brown eyes.

Summer has many supernatural abilities, some are vampric and other are separate powers. She has been shown to possess the following powers:

Levitation: She has the ability to float and even to fly with careful control and rapid speed. She can even sleep while floating.
Pyrokinesis: She can light fire with only her mind.
Telekinesis: She can move things using her mind.
Invisibility: She can turn invisible.
Necromancy: She can raise the dead.
Shape-shifting: She has the ability to shape-shift into numerous monstrous forms, including a bat, a wolf, a reptilian creature, and a large tentacled monster. She appears to be able to preserve her clothing, even after changing into large forms that would cause it to break: in many appearances, the clothing disappears until she returns to her humanoid form
Immunity to sunlight: Unlike traditional vampires, Summer is immune to sunlight.
Eating shades of red: Unlike traditional vampires, Summer is capable of sustaining herself on "shades of red," such as the color in strawberries, rather than being limited to surviving on blood.
Fire Powers: Due to CeeJay giving away her fire powers to Summer, Summer is able to conjure up flames at will, transform into a larger, more dangerous form composed purely of fire, hurl fireballs that can vary in size, and separate her body into distinctly separate groups of flames.

Summer also has an unknown power to transport through other dimensions. In "Foxy Roxy", she demonstrated this ability by teleporting to Townsville, and by teleporting to the Nightosphere. It is unknown if this power is linked to her vampire powers, or her fire powers. Since neither of the vampires and fire people in Adventure Time have this power, it is possible she was either born with it, or she is using some sort of piece of technology to teleport. It is also possible she must have received the power from elsewhere.

Rock Guitar Player: Summer is an expert at playing guitar.
Singer/Rapper: She is a proficient singer, and shows ease in making up rap lyrics on the spot.
Speed Skater: She is extremely good at skating, as demonstrated in "Deja Vu," when she was shown to able to figure skate really well.

Weaknesses[]

Summer appears to have a very strong allergic reaction to garlic, which is a common vampire lore. In "Fierce Heart," when she was exposed to garlic in a enclosed room, she fell weak to the floor, coughing. She also fears a wooden stake, as in "The Dead Rose" she became frightened at the mention of one. Despite being immune to the sunlight, according to Summer moving around on a bright day still slightly affects her.

She also has an unintentional weakness to water, supposedly developed after earning her fire powers. In "Fierce Heart," she becomes unconscious after being doused by a bucket of water, once again shown in "Intermission", where she gets sprayed by water from a hose. She also has a mild weakness to ice, as demonstrated in "Foxy Roxy". Just like traditional vampires, Summer does not have any reflection in a mirror or glass. Vampires can't beat ghost; "It's like a rock, paper, scissors thing", according to Marceline.

Summer is right handed.
Ironically, she is immune to sunlight, and her name happens to be Summer.
- Although she is immune to sunlight, in "Carodil " she started shriveling when exposed to it mysteriously. However, later in the episode when she was exposed to the sun, she didn't.
She has a male counterpart named Sam.
It is suggested that she was not originally a vampire by the fact that she has bite marks on her neck.
Summer's last name was inspired by the milk company, Neilson.
